  This fall the Artisans Centre will be participating in the annual Ontario Culture Days, a national celebration of arts and culture! At the end of each September, millions of people attend thousands of free participatory arts and culture events across the country. These programs invite the public to get hands-on and behind-the-scenes, highlighting the importance of arts and culture in our communities.

  Artisans Centre members will present demonstrations, displays, and hands on activities from fibre, gourd and woodturning arts.

  Saturday September 24th will focus on Gourds, Saturday October 1st will focus on Fibre - Spinning and Weaving, and Saturday October 15th will focus on Woodturning. We will have small make and take opportunities for visitors to participate in. Our centre will be open during these times so you can also have a tour of the facility.

  This is a beginners course where you will learn how to spin sheep's wool into yarn.  You will be introduced to spinning on a drop spindle and on spinning wheel, and will have lots of time to practice your new skill in class.

  This class will consist of a total instructed time of 9 hours.

  Maximum class size: 6

  Learn an easy weaving technique and make a small unique hanging on a tapestry loom. Bring your own scrap yarns (maybe even your handspun) or use ours. All skill levels are welcome, a wall hanging is great for decorating a room or makes a lovely gift!

  Materials, including frame looms, will be provided for the class. Register with a friend for a  fun day out!

  Class maximum is 6 students.

  Join us for a day of creativity and learn how to make your own round basket! We will introduce you to weaving with coloured reeds and start the basket from a solid flat bottom. All materials will be provided for the class and absolutely no experience is required!

  In this introductory 2-day weekend class, using provided 15" table looms, you will complete all the steps needed to plan and complete your first handwoven project! You will learn how to measure a warp for your project, how to calculate yarn requirements, how to wind the warp onto the loom (called dressing the loom), and then thread a pattern and weave a sampler.
  
  Cost fee: $300  

  Materials fee: $10 for yarns  paid to the instructor at the first class

  Complete a shawl to take home in this one day workshop. A great project for beginners, with no experience required! Learn a nifty weaving method using a triangular cardboard frame. This project is a great way to use up bits and bobs of yarn, even handspun, or use the yarn provided.
