Gourd Shekeree Instrument Making

Shekeree is an instrument from Africa.

There are two options for making it. One is to use an unopen gourd add netting and beads and just shake the gourd for the sound. The second is to open the gourd for a deeper sound and tap it like  a drum. Members should bring a prepared gourd. Clean out and finish the inside and stain or design the outside as you want and finish the surface.   All other necessary materials will be provided for this class,  There will be 2 choices for making the netting, hemp string or waxed linen in a large variety of colours. Non-members and first time attendees are welcome to join in this class. No previous experience is required.
