In this beginner-friendly class, participants will learn to use both hand and power tools to open and clean a gourd, including basic safety for working with gourds and care of tools, after which you will be able to use these tools on your own.

After sanding the surface, participants will paint the inside of the gourd before using Adirondack dyes or paints to create a design for the outside of the gourd. The outside will then be finished with an exterior varnish.

Once you have completed this course you will be able to apply a variety of these techniques and express your creativity through gourd art!

This class also acts as a prerequisite to many other gourding workshops.

Participants should bring an apron to protect their clothing and a dust mask if you own one. All materials and supplies will be provided for the class.
