  Participants will draw the outline of a desired design and to adhere the beads, add two-sided tape within the design area. These small beads come on a fine chain and as so, can be adheered in a continuous string to build up your design. To complete the project,  ModPodge or triple thick varnish will be applied over the beads to seal in the design. 

  
  

  Materials will be provided. Experienced gourders should bring an already prepared gourd, while prepared unopened gourds or gourd shards will be available for Non-Members. If you happen to own sharp scissors, jewellery size wire clippers, or a one sided razor blade or an olfa knife, they would be useful supplies to bring along.

• Working with Powertex

  Looking to try something new?  Come and experience the fun of working with Powertex, a liquid that will harden cotton material permanently, and also make it impervious to rain and snow.  All necessary materials will be provided for this class.  
  

  Long plastic aprons will be supplied for everyone. It is strongly recommended that you do not dress in “good clothes” in case Powertex gets on your clothing!  

  
  

  Please bring a large piece of cardboard or an old hard plastic road sign that you have covered in plastic with you to work on.  That way you will be able to bring your finished piece home with you at the end of the class.

• Beginner Gourd Art

  In this class, you will learn to use both hand and power tools for opening and cleaning gourds. Basic safety of working with gourds and care of tools  will be taught, so you will be able to use these tools on your own. You will sand and paint the inside of your gourd before using Adirondack dyes to give a colourful surface to the outside of your gourd. A glued leather rim will complete your gourd. Once you have completed this course you will be ready to apply a variety of techniques and express your creativity on a gourd. This class is a requirement for many other workshops in Gourd Art.  

  The Instructor will provide all materials and supplies for the class. Students need to bring an apron. If you have your own dust mask, please bring it.  Bring your lunch, or buy one from the vendors in the square.

• Faux Stained Glass

  You will learn how to add a design to a gourd that looks like stained glass.  An adhesive lead strip will be placed to simulate stained glass leading, outlining the outside of the design as well as inside.  Adding glass paints or acrylics will enable you to create a lovely stained glass effect.

  Your Teacher will provide: 

  Designs to transfer or bring your own,
  

  Adhesive lead strip,

  Glass paint, acrylics and varnish.

  

  Students please bring:

  A cleaned gourd, opened or closed, at least 5x4 inches,

  Exacto knife,

  Small sharp scissors,

  And a smile.
